Netflix custom weed strains: 27 pounds sold over weekend

Netflix and grill…amirite?

Global streaming giant Netflix officially entered the weed business over the weekend, partnering with an LA dispensary to sell custom strains based on a bunch of Netflix original shows.

In an interview with AdWeek about the stunt this morning, it was revealed 27 pounds (432 ounces) were sold over the weekend from Hollywood dispensary Alternative Herbal Health Services.

The move came with last Friday’s premiere of stoner comedy Disjointed, starring Kathy Bates.

“Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone,” said Netflix in a press release last week.

“For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.”

The shows on which the strains were based are Disjointed, Lady Dynamite, BoJack Horseman, Orange Is the New Black, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Mystery Science 3000: The Return, Arrested Development, Grace and Frankie, Chelsea and Santa Clarita Diet.

In the AdWeek interview, the media agency behind the campaign was careful to note that Netflix itself didn’t technically sell any weed or make a profit – it was all from Alternative Herbal Health Services.
