New breed of drug dealer: Tassie poppy grower expanding into cannabis

Tasmania Alkaloids produces 40% of the world’s opiates

A legal Tasmanian poppy grower is gearing up to grow weed too after partnering with a major medical cannabis company.

Tasmania Alkaloids – producer of 40% of the world’s opiates – has partnered with AusCann, which secured a federal cultivating licence last week, reports News Corp.

But it must now secure a Tasmanian licence before it can kick off operations.

“We are excited to work with Auscann to bring another plant based medicine to patients,” Tasmania Alkaloids CEO Doug Blackaby told News.
