Hunter S. Thompson’s personal weed strains to hit US market

“I’m looking forward to being a drug lord”

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

The wife of the late Hunter S. Thompson, Anita Thompson – who has held on to six strains of dope that the counterculture icon used to smoke – has announced that a Gonzo brand of cannabis is in the works.

Anita Thompson took over Hunter’s famed property Owl Farm (where he wrote, raised peacocks and had gun fights… see gun fight vid below) in June this year, making the announcement during a recent interview with The Aspen Times

She has also gained full ownership rights to the “Gonzo” logo and to Thompson’s likeness – saying, “Now I can protect it, as I always have, but now I can do it with full ownership.”

According to Anita, she had been approached several times in the past to “slap Hunter’s name” on weed brands, since he took his own life in 2005.

“Since it became legal I get approached probably once a month by cannabis growers, dispensaries,” she said. “I’ve had probably 10 meetings in the last three years and I always ended up saying ‘no’…

“If I put Hunter’s name on somebody else’s strain I can never go back and say, ‘No, this is the authentic one’…

‘”I was always steering toward his work and away from his lifestyle, but now I feel like I can talk more openly about his lifestyle…

“I’m looking forward to being a drug lord.”
