The official Original Recipe ingredients are so secret that they’re locked away in a vault

Colonel Sanders’ nephew has revealed what he claims are the 11 “secret herbs and spices” that make the iconic KFC Original Chicken taste, meaning you may be able to have your KFC munchies without driving all the fucken way to an actual KFC.

Said nephew, Joe Ledington, says he found a note with the ingredients in an old scrapbook owned by the Colonel’s second wife Claudia Sanders, in a story that was broken by The Chigaco Tribune this weekend, and widely reported by the media.

Ledington told reporter Jay Jones that the note was Claudia Sanders’ last will and testament. She died in 1996 aged 94, so sadly can’t confirm the note’s authenticity.

The official Original Recipe ingredients are so secret that they’re renownedly locked away in a vault in the legal department of KFC’s head office.

11 Spices – makes four servings
2/3 tsp salt
1/2 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp basil
1/3 tsp oregano
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried mustard
4 tsp paprika
2 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp ground ginger
3 tsp white pepper

plus,

2 cup white flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
1 chook cut up into KFC-sized pieces

Chicago Tribune tried it out with these results

1. Mix the spices and flour together, set aside

2. Mix the buttermilk and the egg, and marinate the chicken pieces in it for 30 min

3. Coat the marinated chicken in the flour/spice mix, set aside for 20m

4. Cook in 2-3 inches of oil, turn once, fry until golden brown
