Hollyweed vandal arrested in LA

The artist was caught on tape altering the Hollywood sign

A 30-year-old artist was this week arrested over the (2016/17) New Year’s “Hollyweed” debacle after turning himself in to LA cops.

Zachary Cole Fernandez was booked for trespassing and released on bail for $1,000 two hours later, reports the LA Times. He will appear in court on Wednesday February 15.

The artist was caught on tape altering the Hollywood sign with hanging tarps on the Os at around 3am on New Year’s day. The tarps displayed peace and love symbols respectively.

Fernandez and his creative partner Sarah Fern fessed up to the stunt – a tribute to the original Hollyweed stunt of Jan 1 1976 – to Vice Media’s Justin Caffier in an interview last week.

“It was still a lot of work though. It took me two hours. It’s exhausting!” He said.

Your adrenaline is pumping and then you just crash so hard when it bottoms out. We collaborated before, packed everything, trying to keep it simple and easy. I’m not about “vandalizing” things. I saw the term tossed around quite a bit in the news today.”
